Some of the items included attending a synagogue service, observing a Catholic Mass, and summoning Helen. For those of you who didn't grow up in Asheville, the legend is that Helen was engaged to a man who broke it off and gave her ring to another woman. Helen then hung herself from a bridge at the summit of Beaucatcher mountain. Supposedly, if you say, "Helen, I've got your ring" three times, the ghost of Helen will appear. I was always afraid to do it because my car always stalled under the bridge. I went with a friend and we said the words. Never saw Helen, but my friend walked away terrified.
After I survived my 30th birthday, I wondered if I would ever get better. I was ready to go to Heaven, but I knew God needed to heal me if he had better plans. I annointed myself with oil for almost a week. I prayed, "God, I am ready to go. However, I can't live and continue being this sick. If you have better planes for me, then I ask that you heal me". God began to heal me over the course of several months. Especially when I spent long periods away from home. When the tile in my bathroom was replaced the following summer, I learned the reason behind my sickness. The sub-flooring in the bathroom was completely covered in black mold. The sub-flooring was cut out and replaced.
I had an awesome time with my first bucket list and started another bucket list a few months ago. So far, I have done things on the list mostly in the order in which they were written. I got my first tattoo in March. Last night, I got to see Blues Traveler in concert. It was awesome. Next on the list is getting a paid ministry job. This may take some time since I don't have a master's degree in divinity or several years of experience.
I believe I am called to preach and that's how I want to spend the rest of my life. I am not sure the rest of the list will even matter after that.
