the mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.
Sinning is so natural that without accepting Jesus Christ as your personal Savior, you will never submit to the laws of God, nor will you have the desire to do so. I was hurt the other day when my son lied to me.
He is only 20 months old, but he lied without using any words.Just before we put him to bed, we brush his teeth. He doesn't like it and I admit that it's not real pleasant for me either. After changing him, I took him to the bathroom. I put some toothpaste on the brush. As soon as my son saw the toothpaste, he closed his eyes and leaned into my chest, pretending he was asleep. He tried to decieve me and did so without using any words.
He taught me a valuable lesson. People are so depraved in their natural state that they actually have to be taught how to do the right thing. A Christian is different. They know that Christ died to save them from the very sins which tempt them. Proverbs 24:16 says that a righteous man may fall 7 times, but will eventually rise up and be victorious.
It ought to tear up any Christian engaged in a lifestyle of sin. Just the other day, I downloaded a secular song on Youtube. I listened for about 5 seconds before I thought, I can't believe I used to listen to this junk. I stopped the song and watched something else. Don't get me wrong, I am not some Holy roller and I listen to secular music frequently. People who know me well know that I can tell the name of a song just by humming a few bars. But that particular song almost made me sick when I listened to it.
A prodigal child of God will always come home. They will come home to church. They will come home to their family. They will come home to God. But a natural person is unable to do these things because they lack the desire. John 3:5-7 says we must be born again from the Holy Spirit in order to be saved and enter the kingdom of Heaven. God gave us the answer.
