The Gospel of John sums this up perfectly in the opening verses.:
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. 4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Jesus was not only with God, but he was and is God. Although he has only been known by name of Jesus for about two thousand years, he is uncreated and coeternal with the Father and the Holy Spirit. Proverbs 30:4 indicates that it was already known before the incarnation that God had a son.
And he loved us enough to become one of us and die on our behalf. Remember that anytime you think God doesn't care about you or that perhaps he is angry with you. He is not that kind of God. He is the God of John 3:16:
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
